Creative Director, SlayriteFashion, Adijat Akinyemi, has emphasised her commitment to supporting local artisans and empowering communities through fashion.

She highlighted the significance of promoting indigenous craftsmanship and sustainable practices within the fashion industry.

Akinyemi made these remarks while unveiling the much-anticipated “Adire Heritage” collection, which pays homage to the traditional Adire textile craft.

According to her, Adire Heritage represents more than just clothing; it embodies a cultural legacy passed down through generations. By incorporating Adire fabric into our designs, we aim to celebrate Nigeria’s cultural richness while advocating for sustainable fashion practices.

Adire, a centuries-old craft originating from the Yoruba tribe of Nigeria, involves a meticulous process of resist-dyeing cotton fabric with indigo or other natural dyes, resulting in striking patterns that reflect the artistic prowess of the artisans.

SlayriteFashion’s “Adire Heritage” collection showcases a fusion of contemporary designs with timeless Adire motifs, presenting a captivating blend of tradition and modernity.

Speaking about the inspiration behind the collection, Akinyemi emphasised the importance of promoting indigenous craftsmanship and sustainable practices in the fashion industry.

The “Adire Heritage” collection features a diverse range of garments, including dresses, shirts, skirts, and accessories, all exquisitely crafted from locally sourced Adire fabric. Each piece tells a story of tradition, craftsmanship, and innovation, making a bold statement in the fashion landscape.

SlayriteFashion’s commitment to sustainability extends beyond the use of eco-friendly materials to include ethical production processes and support for local communities.
