Edo MWAN gets new executive, advocates females’ rights

The new president of the Medical Women’s Association of Nigeria (MWAN), Edo State chapter, Dr. Irene Akhideno has pledged to strive to ensure that women’s health becomes a priority on the national agenda during her tenure.
 
She pledged her investiture as the 23rd president of the Edo State chapter of MWAN which was held at the Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital (ISTH), Irrua, Edo State.
 
Through advocacy and policy reforms, Dr. Akhideno said her leadership would ensure that the Medical Women’s Association would continue to be a strong voice for the rights and healthcare needs of women and girls.
 


She also pledged her commitment to building the capacity of women in the medical field to enhance their capacity to deliver high-quality and gender sensitive healthcare services
 
“Through medical missions, health camps and health education programmes, we will promote preventive care and empower women and girls with knowledge to make informed health decisions.
 
“We will encourage our members to embark on research projects that address the unique health challenges faced by women. By practicing evidence-based practices, we can contribute to policy reform and agenda development of gender-specific healthcare interventions,” she said.
 
While launching a Cancer Support Fund, the new MWAN president, explained that it was geared towards addressing the multifaceted needs of cancer patients and their families, noting that MWAN believes that no one fighting cancer should face the difficulties alone.
 
The Edo State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Samuel Alli congratulated Akhideno, stating that her acceptance of the responsibility was a testament to her dedication and passion for the improvement of health care in the state.
 
Alli lauded the association for being at the forefront of championing healthcare, advocating for women’s health and fostering advancement in the medical profession.

While handing over, the immediate past president of MWAN, Edo State, Dr. Ehi Isa, in her valedictory speech expressed confidence in the capacity of the new president to deliver on the mission and objectives of the association.
